I stumbled upon a panel of inspiring documentary filmmakers of Food Inc. The Cove,Garbage Dreams, and The English Surgeon this weekend after almost aborting my drive to the Director's Guild at 6:30 on a Friday night because the traffic was beyond slow. I am so glad I weathered Sunset and persevered wending my way through the jowls of a Los Angeles night to see something I knew little about. A filmmaker friend invited me. Of course I was late and lost in the crowd. Found a seat and the pay off was immediate. I was transfixed by bunch of film clips and their intelligent courageous directors. Discussing their adventures in film showing us the grace and disgrace of national and international secrets from where our food comes from to a cove where dolphin slaughter is camouflaged by Flipperesque Iconic images and a dirty little secret cruelty, to a quirky compassionate English brain surgeon who works in the Ukraine on critical patients to help out,and a small garbage town in Egypt harbors young joyous recycling entrepreneurs proud of their skills and happy to share their hopes and dreams with the world. The content is so human and inspiring, authentic and rich, I had to share. We all can be the eyes and ears of the world and bring stories to life one way or another and make a difference. Check out Food Inc. The Cove, Garbage Dreams, and The English Surgeon. Each movie a call to action and a new perspective. Their comments about the process and the response of the world to help their causes gives a satisfaction clearly to help make our world more authentic.
National Geographic photographer, and Founder of The Oceanic Preservation Society shows and tells a haunting Dolphin tale.
