 I think the whole ritual of going to a local market no matter what part of the world you are in, is the essence of a place’s personality. I find the Italians to be particularly focused and serious about their food. Last week I blew through the Santa Monica Farmer’s Market to pick produce for a home cooked Italian meal. I was in such a rush I didn’t take the time to really analyze the produce. Part of the joy is in the choosing. So slow down and enjoy the ritual like these ladies I photographed in Italy as dignified examples of the fresh local market behavior.
