On the road without a compass leaving the safety zone of the beloved control room of home. Discovering a level of comfort, effervescence, power and innocence in the doing of putting one foot in front of the other.
Dinner tables filled with strangers, probing questions shared walks in the forest or on the beach getting to know you world in a new way. Restless marriages and broken friendships, the hapless shards of a life penetrate my muscles and show on my skin. Releasing the chains yet still feeling noticed, sensual, clever, delighted voluptuous. To be under the surveillance of my dog, the long afternoon alone in the curated nest, a home found at last yet the passport is singing from my drawer.
I can hear French, Greek, and Portuguese, Maltese. I can see the little booklet Global Pass doing the Can- can, putting on a climbing gear, looking for that ancient good luck charm.
The car can take you across the United States; your overstuffed suitcase is still full of dreams and you must chase them. You go ahead and pad it with hope and unnecessary luxuries. Why not?
The woman who created a life so private and adventurous was there always a theme, a journey a beginning and an end? Who knows.
Characters frantic or slow, old or young discover tried and true ways of finding happiness themselves either through grasping, acquisition, constantly failing or lurching out of a comfort zone.
